Dr.Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, the sagacious founder of the great Annamalai University, was a moral and spiritual genius, who, throughout his life, lived up to his motto, “strive, save and serve”. He has been hailed as “The Rockefeller of South India”, “The Prince among the Philanthropists”, “A Peerless founder”, “Bounteous benefactor” and as one who gave himself “Nobler Loves and Nobler cares”. Dr.Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar beheld the future of the youths of India , and , in consequence, founded Annamalai University to bring learning, at all levels, within the reach of every aspirant to knowledge.

Padma Bushan Dr.Rajah Sir. Muthiah Chettiar was a multifaceted personality whose interest included diverse fields like education, banking, industry, music and fine arts, politics and social work. His distinct contribution was felt in each one of this fields of activity. His public activities, philanthropic and social achievements, his contribution to Tamil Language and Tamil Isai are highly commendable. He possessed a pleasant character, pleasing manners, and dynamic personality with a delightful mid and strong will power.
Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy the present Founder-Pro-Chancellor is a distinguished and dynamic personality and a man of versatile achievements. Embracing almost the entire gamut of life, his interest range from industry to sports, from commerce to administration, from culture religion and from education to philanthropy. His keen understanding of men and matters, his catholic out look, originality, sense of discernment, and above all, his largeness of heart veritably mark him as an illustrious grandson of an illustrious grandfather and as a worthy son of a worthy father.
Dr.Ramaswamy’s most spectacular achievement is his fulfillment of the long cherish deam of his father Dr.Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar viz the establishment of the medical College as a self-financing institution on 5 th August 1985 . The present imposing and magnificent building was declared open by His Excellency Rashtrapathi Shri.R.Venkatraman on 28 th April 1988 .
Dr.L.B.Venkatrangan, the present Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University, with great interest in social science research is a renowned demographer. His impressive contribution to the Directorate of Distance Education enabled him to become one of the leading distance education administrators in the country. He became the Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University on January 29, 2002 .
Dr.LBV’s versatility came to the forefront immediately after he assumed office of the Vice-Chancellor. The fully air-conditioned and computerized medical college library, and the renovated and air-conditioned Sastri Hall and Senate Hall of the University are the standing testimonies to his high-tech mind.
Dr.M.Rathinasabapathi, the present Registrar of the University is a reputed academician under renowned scholar at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. He is a silent, soft-spoken but efficient administrator. He carries out his assignments diligently and rapidly. He is an asset to the institution.
TECHNICAL ADVISOR
Dr.K.Srinath Reddy, is the Professor and HOD of Cardiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi . He is also the WHO Co-ordinator of the Initiative for Cardiovascular diseases for developing countries. He is the great researcher, academician and a world known cardiovascular epidemiologist who has published large number of articles in reputed national and international journals. He has authored many books on cardiovascular health. He has a special interest in national tobacco control programmes. He is the chair of the World Heart Federation’s Scientific Council on Epidemiology and Prevention. Prof. Reddy has been involved in several international and national research studies including the INTERSALT global study of blood pressure and electrolytes, ICMR commissioned national collaborative studies. He has also served on many WHO expert panels.
DEAN
Dr.M.Ramanathan, Professor of Surgery and Dean, Faculty of Medicine, is a reputed surgeon of this region who has long years of service in this University as a medical officer and subsequently as a teaching faculty of Rajah Muthiah Medical College . He is a very good academician with keen interest in research also. He is the Sub-Investigator of an international clinical trial called “POISE” study. He is a calm, simple, silent but efficient and dynamic administrator. His handling of difficult issues is worthy of emulation.
ADVISOR TO VICE-CHANCELLOR
Dr.S.Vembar, a nationally known pharmacologist and former Dean, Faculty of Medicine, is the Advisor to Vice-Chancellor. His wide knowledge of issues on medical education both undergraduate and postgraduate is known to all. The University in general and the faculty of medicine in particular receives valuable suggestions and timely advice are noteworthy.
PROJECT COORDINATOR AND MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT
Dr.N.Chidambaram, Professor of Medicine with a great interest in the field of cardiology is the Vice-Chairman of Rajah Muthiah Heart Foundation and Project Co-ordinator of TOFREDIN (TObacco FRee EDucational INstitution). His innovative programmes namely “Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic” and preventive programmes under the banner “Cardiac Alert” have gained wide popularity among the members of the public. He is the Principal-Investigator of many international clinical trials in cardiology and the results of these studies have been published in many international journals.
