Cardiac disease is a major cause of morbidity in India . In the coming decades the number of people affected by cardiac diseases during their productive life is likely to increase. Such wastage to productive lives not only affect quality and well being of affected persons and families by it but also substantially diminishes the demographic advantage the country would otherwise have on account of its population dynamics.
In order to ensure better quality of health and well being of the society, action focusing on preventive in promotive care should be taken right in earnest. Among the preventive strategies, the most co-effective one is positive life –style changes. There are numerous life style modifications that can positively influence cardiac health. This project focuses on withdrawal / prevention of tobacco in youth in an educational institution i.e. Annamalai University . This project is an initiative for creating no tobacco educational institution, which is first of its kind in the country. This is an attempt to create a tobacco free educational institution through awareness and advocacy related to tobacco control, thereby contributing to the overall welfare of the society.
